About Me

Educational History:

  • I graduated from Detroit High School in 1974.
  • I graduated from East Texas State University (now Texas A & M Commerce) in 1982.

Degrees and Certifications:

  • I have a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in mathematics and English.
  • I have a lifetime certificate to teach secondary math and English (grades 6-12).

Professional Development:

  • I have hundreds of hours of professional development including participating in a Math Teacher Mentor program with Region 8, participating in the Texas Math and Science Collaborative, and mentoring pre-service teachers.
  • I have also served on multiple committees with TEA to help develop the Algebra I End of Course Test and review field tested items.

Current Position:

 I have previously taught for five years in Detroit ISD.  This year, I am returning to Detroit High after spending 2 years in retirement.  I will be teaching Algebra I, Geometry, and Math Lab.

Previous Position:

I have 29 years of teaching experience in 5 different school districts (Prairiland, Pearsall, Detroit, Chapel Hill, and Mount Vernon).  I have taught math courses from grades six through twelve, and English from grades nine through twelve.  I retired from Mount Vernon ISD in May of 2015.

Family Information:

My husband, Garry, and I have been married for 34 years.  We have two daughters, one son, a daugter-in-law, a son-in-law, and six grandchildren (4 boys and 2 girls).  All three of our children graduated from Mount Vernon High School and are college grads as well.
