Marlee Garrison selected as an ambassador for Health Ambassadors for a Ready Texas (HART)

Commissioner Miller and The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) has named Marlee Garrison from Detroit ISD as an ambassador in its Health Ambassadors for a Ready Texas (HART) Initiative.

HART students collaborate with TDA and their nutrition teams to champion healthy eating and Texas agriculture on their school campuses. Ambassadors also promote the good nutrition in school meals during National School Lunch Week, Farm to School Month and other events each semester. They also contribute their own strategies for developing healthier campuses.

“I am proud to recognize these student leaders as HART ambassadors,” Commissioner Miller said. “Each meal you eat, you’re depending on American farmers and ranchers. These kids have pledged to help connect Texas agriculture and good nutrition across the Lone Star State. I look forward to watching their initiatives in building a healthier lifestyle for their communities.”

Feedback from HART students provides the TDA Food and Nutrition Division with valuable insight for increasing participation in federal nutrition programs. The division also supports student leaders as they work to engage their peers in learning more about good nutrition and healthy lifestyles.
