Greetings!
It is my pleasure to be the Family and Consumer Science teacher for Detroit High School. Family and Consumer Sciences (Formerly Known as "Home-Ec") prepares students for family life, work life, and careers in eight core areas:
As a high school student I was involved in FACS- Family and Consumer science classes, as well as the co-curricular organization FCCLA- Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America. Thus, igniting my passion for this career. While in high school I was chapter FCCLA president for three years (2005-2008) , Region III Vice President of Recreation (05-06) and State Parliamentarian (07-08). Having been involved in FCS and FCCLA in high school I share a passion with my students for this area of education. I graduated from Sulphur Bluff High School in 2008 and went on to pursue my bachelors degree at Texas Tech University. While I loved FCCLA and FCS I wasn't sure I wanted to be a teacher, so I pursued a degree in Social Work. I graduated with a Bachelors of Social Work from Texas Tech University in 2012 and moved back to east Texas to work. In July of 2012, I landed a Crisis Specialist job at Lakes Regional MHMR center in Mt.Pleasant, Texas. After a year of working in the mental health field, I received the opportunity to obtain a teaching certification and was hired here at Detroit ISD. Teaching is my passion and I enjoy helping my students prepare for college and adult life.
