Elementary Construction update
We are in the planning stages of the new Elementary addition. The new Elementary addition will consist of 10 new classrooms, two smaller specialized classrooms, nurses office, administrative offices, new dining area, library, computer lab, and a new kitchen. The architects met with the Elementary faculty last week and received ideas and input on the facility. They presented a plan to the School Board during last Monday’s meeting.
The new facility will be located directly in front of the existing buildings. The estimated schedule will be to begin excavation in the late spring/early summer with the final completion in early June of 2009. The summer of 2009 will require the demolition of the old elementary facility and building a new front on the additions built in the 1980’s. There will be a new playground constructed between the buildings and the additions that were built in the 80’s and 90’s will continue to be used.
The added security of the new facility will be a bonus. The front entrance of the building will have a feature to restrict access to the building. During the school day anyone visiting the new campus will have to enter through the office before proceeding into the rest of the building. The moving of the playground between the buildings will also add an added level of security as opposed to our current location. The buildings will surround the playground on the north and south and fencing will be added on the sides. There will also be a bus lane added to help the traffic flow and to attempt to move the buses off the street.
Excitement is growing about the new facilities and we are proud and thankful to our community for supporting these projects for our students.
