Don't Mess with Texas Scholarship

The 2008 Don't Mess with Texas Scholarships recognizes the achievements of high school seniors who have taken leadership roles to prevent litter in their schools and/or communities. One $3,000 and two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded this spring. Students may submit either essay or both if they wish to apply for both scholarships.
 
Essay #1 - ( one $3,000 and one $1,000 scholarship) Write an essay of 300-350 words describing how you identified a specific litter problem in your school or community and the action you took to address it. Be sure you clearly state the problem and explain how you initiated or became involved in a creative and sustainable solution.
 
Essay #2 - (one $1,000 scholarship) Write an essay of 300-350 words describing how you would assist the Don't Mess with Texas campaign in its efforts to put a "Litterbag in Every Car." Clearly explain how you would develop a creative and sustainable solution for persuading more drivers to put their litter into a bag. Give a timeline from April to August of 2008, including milestones, for the implementation of your idea in your community.
 
What are the requirements?
Along with their essay, students are required to submit a completed application and two letters of recommendation. Students may apply for both the traditional scholarship and the litter bag scholarship, but must complete two separate essays and applications.
